Wednesday, May 25th, 2011
“For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.”
- Judy Garland
The Wedding Guide would like to congratulate Wedding Guide bride Dulce Romero on her engagement!
Ulises Urbina and Dulce Romero met in 2007 while they were both attending college. The couple became friends but, they were beginning to have deeper feeling for each other. A few months after meeting, Ulises decided to ask Dulce out on a date. Dulce accepted and after a couple of weeks they became boyfriend and girlfriend.
The couple spent the remainder of their college years together in California. After graduating with their master’s degrees. Dulce planned on moving to Texas to pursue her doctorate. Ulises made a decision to follow her to Texas, so they could be together. Dulce tells us, “The support, respect, and love we have for each other has allowed us to be at the stage of our relationship we are now. He is my perfect man!”
On December 11, 2011 Ulises proposed to Dulce. The couple was out for a night on the town in San Antonio; they made their way to the Riverwalk. While taking in the romantic feel of the Riverwalk, Ulises popped the question. Dulce tells us, “It was the perfect setting for the proposal!”
They are planning to get married on September 10, 2011 in California.

Damage proof your marriage: Passport to marriage workshop
Tuesday, May 10th, 2011Each year, divorce rates continue to rise in the United States. Many couples are looking for opportunities to damage-proof their relationships before they say “I do.” Pre-marital counseling is just one approach couples are taking. The San Antonio Wedding Guide is sponsoring a free marriage workshop to help all couples have a happy and healthy marriage. Another added bonus is you will receive a certificate for this workshop that will save you $60 on you marriage licence.
What is Pre-Marital Counseling?
Pre-marital counseling is usually facilitated by a skilled family therapist or a members of the clergy. The function of pre-marital counseling is two-fold:
- To assist couples in developing skills to navigate their way through marriage successfully
- To identify and resolve areas of difference between couples that may become a source of conflict later
Many professionals performing pre-marital counseling will use assessment tools to help identify these potential difficulties. In the passport to marriage workshop, we will touch on the topics in a relationship that will help you to create a sound structure for a happy marriage such as:
- Intimacy
- Family
- Strengths and Weaknesses
- Role Expectations
- Goals
- Finances
- Interpersonal Communication
When Should a Couple Seek Pre-Marital Counseling?
Although, we suggest pre-marital counseling to every couple who is planning to get married. We encourage couples to consider pre-marital counseling if you answer yes to any or all of the following:
- Are you young and have never been married?
- Are you or your partner a “commitment-phob”?
- Can’t resolve significant issues regarding money, parenting, household responsibility, work, sex, etc.?
- Have you or your partner been previously divorced and want to avoid repeating the same mistakes?
- Do you have difficulty handling conflict?
- Do you have a history of childhood, domestic or sexual abuse?
- Do you have unanswered question about entering into marriage?
Marriage, and family, can be among life’s greatest assets. If we strive to protect assets that mean less to us than our loved ones, why not explore the issues ahead of time to “damage-proof” the precious gift of marriage? Sign up today for your passport to marriage!

Bride of the Week: Kristina Mendoza
Wednesday, April 13th, 2011
“Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.” – Robert A. Heinlein
The Wedding Guide would like to congratulate Wedding Guide bride Kristina Mendoza on her engagement.
Kristina Mendoza and Nathan Arriaga had an internet romance that blossomed before everyone’s eyes. With no luck in finding the man of her dreams in her own city, Kristina decided to venture out into the virtual world. She joined a dating website, in hopes of finding Mr. Right. Shortly after posting her profile Nathan responded. Nathan was in the Army K-9 unit and coincidently his unit was in San Antonio for training. Interested, Nathan asked Kristina out for coffee, she declined his invitation. He was trying to keep it simple and kept asking her out for coffee, Kristina says “I kept declining because I don’t even drink coffee.” Though she declined his invitations, Kristina decided to stay in contact with him.
They had friendly chats but never met up. After his training in San Antonio was over, Nathan returned to Virgina where he was stationed. Even after Nathan returned to Virgina, the two continued their online friendship. After talking to Nathan for a few months, Kristina told her mom, “If only I drank coffee.” She realized Nathan was perfect for her and was regretting declining his invitation. In August 2010, after talking on Skype and on the phone, Nathan decided to make a trip back to San Antonio to finally meet Kristina. On his seven day trip, Nathan knew that Kristina was the one; Kristina felt the same. The two decided to make it official and started dating.
In October 2010, Nathan invited Kristina to visit him in Virgina. Little did she know, he was planning to ask her to marry him. Being the gentleman that he is, Nathan called Kristina’s mother and asked her for her daughters hand in marriage. Kristina’s mother approved, and Nathan’s plan was in motion.
Upon arriving, Nathan took Kristina to his dog training facility. When she arrived at the facility, Nathan’s dog Zzarr was waiting there. Nathan used Zzarr to propose to Kristina. He trained Zzarr to sit infornt of her while he got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage. The whole proposal was caught on tape. Watch it below!
Nathan recently received orders to serve in Afghanistan. While he’s away Kristina and her mother Imelda are planning the wedding. The happy couple will get married on Cinco de Mayo of 2012. She is in the beginning stages of her wedding planning. She got her wedding dress at David’s Bridal in San Antonio. She is excited about her fiesta-themed wedding in 2012.
